In 1922,

Henry W. Bethard, Jr. moved to Coushatta, Louisiana to set up his practice in the thriving oil and gas industry, and land-related law became the Bethard specialty. In the years since, the firm was an early leader in property and mineral law, and developed a reputation for their valuable insight, straightforward approach, and effective results.

The firm has grown to include three additional generations of Bethard attorneys, who run the firm together today. Still based in Coushatta, Bethard & Bethard expanded to include an office in Shreveport to better serve clients in various parishes. Over the years, our firm has established good relationships with individuals, families, businesses and landowners in Red River Parish, Caddo Parish, Natchitoches Parish, DeSoto Parish, Bienville Parish, Bossier Parish, Claiborne Parish, Sabine Parish and several others around Louisiana.

We represent clients owning thousands of acres of timber, agricultural and recreational properties as well as clients owning residential lots and tax sale properties. We are familiar with the issues and opportunities that come along with owning small, undivided interest in property, owning mineral rights or owning property without the mineral rights, as well as complex successions and probates, and corporations and Limited Liability Companies (LLCs). Our services and expertise range from buying and selling property to mineral lease negotiations, to estate planning, to complex litigation, and all aspects in between.

What We Offer

Practical Solutions

We are, first and foremost, problem solvers. As business-minded people ourselves, we understand our clients’ goals, and we make it our mission to find the most practical, cost-effective, and simple answer to their legal issues.

Expert Advice

We have four generations’ worth of experience in property and oil and gas law, and we pride ourselves on our comprehensive knowledge of property law, and 96 years of tried and true methods and results.

One of the many benefits of a family firm is that we often collaborate on legal issues, so that clients are actually receiving the advantage of four or five lawyers instead of only one.

Direct Communication

We make personal service and accessibility our top priority – when a client calls, they speak to their lawyer, not a paralegal, associate, or secretary.

We want clients to have a good understanding of all the legal options and decisions in front of them, and we strive to provide an in-depth understanding of every action made and document signed. We explore and explain every option, and help the client decide what option best fits their goals.
